SummaryTwo methods for the preparation of crystalline fradicin (cas 1403-61-8) base from Streptomyces fradiae fermentation liquors are presented.One method employs chromatography of mycelial extracts on Superfiltrol-Celite 545 columns. The other method, better adapted to largerscale operations, involves a pH-controlled phase separation of extract followed by precipitation of fradicin base at high pH. The precipitate is dissolved in ethylene dicholoride from which fradicin base is subsequently crystallized.
