  • Chapter 17 - Aliphatic dicarboxylic acids
  • Add time:09/01/2019         Source:sciencedirect.com

Publisher SummaryThe chapter reviews the physical chemistry related to dicarboxylic acids. The different theories of the ionization of dicarboxylic acids have are discussed. Past theories are analyzed by taking into account the conformational change accompanying the second ionization. Similar data are presented for the ionization of meso and racemic 2,3-dimethlsuccinic acids. In addition, an investigation, which is carried out in 10–40 mass % dioxane for oxalic, malonic, glutaric and adipic aids, is described and the results are discussed in terms of preferential salvation of dicarboxylate ions. The spectroscopy of dicarboxylic acids and derivatives are also presented. The synthesis of dicarboxylic acids, the transition metal catalyzed metathesis of unsaturated, polysaturated, and other related unsaturated fatty acid esters to give unsaturated fatty acid dicarboxylate esters are reviewed. The reactions of dicarboxylic acids and their use in organic synthesis are also presented. Finally, electrochemical polymerization and other reactions of dicarboxylic acids are outlined with equations
