Heart rate (HR) and body core temperature (Tco) were monitored in unanesthetized, unrestrained adult Sprague-Dawley rats following intraperitoneal administration of 0, 10, 30, or 60 mgkg of the pesticide chlordimeform (CDM). Significant non-dose-related decreases were observed in both HR and Tco in all treated groups. Although similar in character, the HR response observed in the present study was of a lesser magnitude than that which was reported in previous studies from this laboratory using anesthetized animals in which Tco was maintained at control levels. It is proposed that the attenuation of the toxic response seen in the present study may be causally related to the concomitant decrease in Tco.
