  • Selective fluorescent probes for spermine and 1-adamantanamine based on the supramolecular structure formed between AIE-active molecule and cucurbit[n]urils

A supramolecular system (1@CB[7]) formed between an AIE-active molecule and cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]) was used to construct selective fluorescent probe for spermine. 1@CB[7] displayed high selectivity toward spermine with a linear range of 0–12 μM and a detection limit of 1.0 μM spermine, which well covered the concentration range required for early diagnosis of cancer (1–10 μM for urinary spermine). The design strategy based on supramolecular chemistry avoided tedious and time-consuming synthetic and purification procedures. A selective fluorescent probe for 1-adamantanamine (AD) was also fabricated using the same approach based on the supramolecular structure of AIE-active molecule 1 and cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]). This design strategy is crucial for the early diagnosis of malignant tumour and may provide some guideline for the development of new fluorescent probes for important biological species.
