SummaryBy feeding of gibberellic acid (GA3) the number of specialized crystal cells in the leaves of the jackbean, Canavalia ensiformis DC., is greatly reduced. If calcium is fed into the stems together with GA3, then the influence of the GA3 on crystal cell differentiation is partly neutralized. The usual morphological effects of GAs occur strongly with Canavalia, in spite of the fact that it is a plant with already well developed internodes. The network of vascular strands in the leaves becomes somewhat wider under the influence of GA3.
