SUMMARYThe data presented show that M&B 10,755 (4-cyano-2-iodo-6-nitrophenol) is active against Fasciola hepatica in experimentally infected rabbits, sheep and calves. Administered by subcutaneous injection to sheep and calves, the approximate maximum tolerated dose is 40 mg./kg.; the toxic signs produced at high doses are typical of those produced by this class of compound. Reduction in the number and size of parasites recovered was produced by treatments administered as early as the fourth week of infection. A single subcutaneous dose of 10 mg./kg. bodyweight was effective in eliminating the 10 weeks old infection. In sheep the activity of the compound was not affected by the presence of an existing infection. The possible value of the compound in the control of fascioliasis is discussed.
