Two new benzimidazole salts, namely, [H2IBI]2+ 2X (X = NO3− (1), ClO4− (2) [IBI = 2-((1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl)-1H-benzimidazole], were grown through reacting IBI and two different inorganic acids by slow evaporation method, respectively. Compounds 1 and 2 have been characterized by single–crystal X–ray diffraction, IR, UV–Vis, and thermogravimetric analyses (TGA). In both compounds, a set of hydrogen bonds (C/NH⋯O) can be clearly observed, through which a three-dimensional framework will be generated. The luminescent spectra show the emission peaks in compounds 1 and 2 are found at 375 and 371 nm, respectively. By comparison with the free IBI, the emission maxima of compounds 1 and 2 are obviously red-shifted about 67 and 63 nm, respectively.
