1.1. The nature of the inhibitory effect of Bayluscide, sodium pentachlorophenate, and copper sulphate on succinate oxidation in tissue homogenates of the snail, Biomphalaria alexandrina, is investigated.2.2. Evidence indicates that the inhibition caused by sodium pentachlorophenate (5 × 10−5M) is mainly due to accumulation of oxaloacetate.3.3. The inhibition by Bayluscide (1 × 10−5M) is not only due to oxaloacetate accumulation but also to some other mechanisms of inhibition.4.4. Inhibition by copper sulphate is mainly due to its poisonous effect on the SH group contained in succinate oxidase, which was prevented by the addition of cysteine.
