The gas phase reaction between boroxine and phosphorus trifluoride has been studied and shown to proceed as: B3O3H3(g) + PF3(g) → BH3PF3(g) + B2O3(s). Rate date obtained using an i.r. absorbance technique show a first order dependence on boroxine.A mechanism is suggested. Phosphorus trifluoride borane reacts with oxygen in the gas phase to form H2B2O3(g). The effects of other species on this reaction are discussed in terms of a heterogeneous reaction.
