  • The effect of CeO2 on the thermal stability, structure and thermoluminescence and optically stimulated luminescence properties of barium borate glass

Cerium doped barium borate glasses were prepared in the BaO-B2O3 system. The effect of CeO2 admixture on thermal stability and structure of the glass was developed. Thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) properties, such as glow curves, linearity of dose-response and decay curves were presented. The results showed that the increase of cerium dopant concentration from 1 to 5 mol% promotes the [BO4] formation and causes the efficiency enhancement of TL by more than ten times and OSL by more than one hundred times. Based on the XRD patterns we can state that a new phase of BaCeB9O16 was obtained, which is not present in the structural databases. The Rietveld analysis showed that the phase is isostructural to BaLaB9O16. Controlled crystallization of cerium doped borate glasses revealed that formation of the glass-ceramics can enhance the intensity both of TL and OSL processes.
