The superfine interaction constants of the cation-radicals of some silicoorganic polyviologens which have not previously been described show that the dimethylsilyl groups play only a small part in the spin density distribution. The interaction of poly-N,N′-1,3-bis-(methylene)tetramethyldisiloxy-4,4′-dipyridinium dihalides with Cu(II) and Zn(II) chlorides results in the formation of complexes of π-dative character which are unable to generate cation-radicals, resulting in an increase in their resistance to thermal oxidation.
