  • Effects of diabetic human blood addition on morphology of cupric chloride dendrites grown from aqueous solutions
  • Add time:07/21/2019         Source:sciencedirect.com

Dendrites of hydrated cupric chloride crystallized from dihydrated cupric chloride aqueous solutions to which a slight amount of lysed blood from diabetic patients and healthy persons, as controls, was added in vitro, were grown in uncovered petri dishes using a computer-controlled crystal growth system. It has been shown that blood has an inhibitory effect on nucleation of hydrated cupric chloride crystals and that larger convex lens bodies near the nucleation center of the dendrites form in the presence of hemolysate from diabetic patients, but not in the presence of hemolysate from normal controls. The specific crystal growth forms were divided into three categories according to the long diameter of the convex lens shape: small (S)<8 mm, medium (M) ≧8 mm but <20 mm, and large (L) ≧20 mm. S growth forms correlated with concentration of proteins in serum in blood were generated by the blood of both healthy persons and diabetic patients, whereas the M and L forms were specific to diabetic patients according to the results of statistical testing by Student's t-test. The occurrence of these M and L forms was correlated with the concentrations of HbA1, HbA1c, glucose, creatinine, uric acid, platelets, and ceruloplasmin, among 90 items in a quantitative blood component analysis.
