The L-Cysteine modified carbon paste electrode (Cys-CPE) has been employed for the electrochemical determination of Chlorpromazine (CPM). The anodic behaviour of CPM was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV). The Cys-CPE showed enhanced electrochemical conductivity and ease of electron transfer towards the oxidation of CPM in the potential range of 0.2 V to 1.2 V in 0.1 M phosphate buffer solution (PBS). Electrochemical impedance study (EIS) showed the charge transfer resistance at CPE (241.4 Ω) and Cys-CPE (219.5 Ω). Under the optimum experimental conditions the anodic peak current increased linearly with concentration of CPM in the range of 1 – 35 µM (for DPV) and 0.8 – 3.4 µM (for SWV), respectively. The detection limit for DPV and SWV were respectively found to be 0.0119 µM and 2.436 nM. The proposed method was successfully employed for the determination of CPM present in pharmaceutical samples.
