Mössbauer and IR spectra and electric dipole moments have been obtained for a series of dihalo and diorgano tin(IV) complexes with 2-pyridinethiol. Quadrupole splittings and isomer shifts indicate a trans arrangement of the CSnC bonds in all of the diorgano compounds in contrast to a trans and cis arrangement for dialkyl and diphenyl tin(IV) complexes with 2-pyridimethiol 1-oxide. The dipole moments indicate chelation, four-membered rings, with cis nitrogen and cis halogen atoms in the SnX2(2-Spy)2 compounds. The Mössbauer spectra of these compounds show significant quadrupole splittings.
