A SHG active Organic molecular adduct, 4-acetylpyridine:4-aminobenzoicacid (APAB)(1:1) was synthesized and single crystals grown by slow solvent evaporation solution growth technique at ambient temperature. The molecular structure was confirmed by NMR spectral studies and single crystal x-ray diffraction analysis. The title adduct crystallizes in orthorhombic system with non-centrosymmetric space group, P212121. FT-IR spectroscopic study was carried out to confirm the presence of various functional groups in the crystal. Optical transmittance window and lower cut off wavelength were identified by UV-Vis-NIR spectral study. The thermal stability was established by TG/DTA analysis. The mechanical property was studied by Vickers Microhardness test. The relative SHG efficiency was investigated by modified Kurtz Perry powder technique and the value was found to be 1.39 times that of KDP. The laser damage threshold value was found to be 1.95 GW/cm2.
