In this paper, we study uptake and release properties of phenazopyridine hydrochloride (denoted PHP) from [Zn2(NH2-BDC)2(4-bpdh)]·3DMF (denoted TMU-16-NH2) in comparison with [Zn2(BDC)2(4-bpdh)]·3DMF (denoted TMU-16). TMU-16-NH2 can absorb PHP faster than TMU-16 as evidenced from the faster decline of the UV/vis peak in the former case. After 13 h, the uptake of PHP (95%) on TMU-16-NH2 is remarkable and clearly exceeds that of PHP (69%) on TMU-16 in the aqueous solution of PHP. The samples were characterized with UV/vis spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, elemental analyses, and thermo gravimetric analyses. XRPD analyses indicated that the prepared compounds were crystalline.
