Stimulus-responsive wormlike micelles (WLMs) have received extensive attention in the past decade. In this article, we report dual stimuli-responsive WLMs based on a single-responsive azobenzene surfactant (C4AzoC6N) and a commercially available organic slat, sodium azophenol (AzoONa). Fast and reversible CO2-triggered thinning behaviour was observed. When CO2 is introduced into the C4AzoC6N-AzoONa system, high-viscelastic WLMs shift into low-viscosity solutions in short-time scale, while bubbling N2 under heating can make a converse process. The WLMs can also be reversibly switched by UV irradiation. This study offers a facile and effective way to achieve multi-stimuli responsive viscoelastic fluids by using cationic azobenzene surfactants in combination with a CO2-sensitive organic slat.
