Dehydrofluorination of 1H:5H-hexafluorocyclopentene with molten potassium hydroxide gives 2H-pentafluorocyclopentadiene, which dimerizes readily. Dehydrofluorination of 3H/4H-hexafluorocyclopentene gives a mixture of the 1H- and 2H-pentafluorocyclopentadienes. The 1H-diene also dimerizes.
