  • Conversion of progesterone to 16 ∝-hydroxyprogesterone in normal human corpus luteum tissue (1)
  • Add time:07/16/2019         Source:sciencedirect.com

Although the conversion of progesterone to 16 ∝-hydroxyprogesterone has been reported in human endocrine target organs (2–7), information of 16-hydroxylase activity on the ovarian tissue is quite limited. Warren and Salhanick (8) observed formation of 16 ∝-hydroxyprogesterone on incubation studies with minced tissues from both normal and Stein-Leventhal ovaries; however, the normal ovaries used in their experiments contained no corpus luteum. Evidence is presented, in this manuscript, that progesterone-7H3 was converted to radioactive 16 ∝-hydroxyprogesterone by a human corpus luteum removed on the 26th day of the menstrual cycle.
