The IR spectra of KAu(CN)2 and NaAu(CN)2 in 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone solution, the Raman spectra of KAu(CN)2 and NaAu(CN)2 in aqueous solution and the IR and Raman spectra of polycrystalline KAu(CN)2, NaAu(CN)2, NH4Au(CN)2, LiAu(CN)2, TlAu(CN)2 and AgAu(CN)2, are reported. A complete vibrational assignment of the dicyanoaurate(I) ion is presented. The vibrational spectra of dicyanoaurate(I) ions in polycrystalline KAu(CN)2, NaAu(CN)2, NH4Au(CN)2 and LiAu(CN)2 are assigned on the basis of D∞ h symmetry, while the dicyanoaurate(I) groups in polycrystalline TlAu(CN)2 and AgAu(CN)2 are assigned on the basis of C2v and C∞v symmetry, respectively. The vibrational spectra of TlAu(CN)2 are consistent with the presence of a weak Tl-Au bond, while the spectra of AgAu(CN)2 indicate the presence of bridged CN groups.
