  • Thermodynamic modelling of the Ni-V system
  • Add time:07/18/2019         Source:sciencedirect.com

In the present work, the Ni-V system was thermodynamically modelled using the Calphad approach. In the modelling, experimental data on mixing and formation enthalpies, and phase boundaries as well as first-principles data were included. Thermodynamic properties of stable phases of the modelled Ni-V system are discussed in detail and compared with the previous assessments of this system. The calculated phase diagram and its thermodynamic properties are shown and compared with experimental data points. Two distinct models are used for the following intermetallic phases: for Ni8V and Ni2V, both stoichiometric and 2 sublattices; σ-phase, 3 and 5 sublattices. Ni3V and NiV3 are both described with 2 sublattices. A comparison between calculated phase diagram and experimental measurements shows a good agreement between the present results and experiments. In the end, full and simple Calphad descriptions on this system are proposed. Compared to previous assessments, a much improved reproduction of standard enthalpies of formation of the intermetallic compounds has been achieved.
