Summary1.The use of phenolphthalein monophosphate (cas 13306-67-7) in a 12-channel automated system (SMA-12 Auto-AnalyzerTM), as a substrate, in a simplified determination of the alkaline phosphatase enzymatic activity in blood serum, is described. After the incubation, the addition of a 0.1 M phosphate buffer (pH 11.2) acts as a color developer and stabilizer.2.A comparison against the regularly used King-Armstrong modified method with respect of a group of 103 unselected blood serum samples showed close agreement, indicating a linear correlation. The Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was +0.674. The normal range for the adapted method, as determined in a group of 95 adults, was found to be 4.1 to 12.9 King-Armstrong units (KAU) (Mean 8.5; S.D. ± 2.2 KAU).
