GB 2760 - 1996 provides for the use of edible spices. (1R)-(-)-Menthyl acetate (2623-23-6) is mainly used in the preparation of mint, fruit and berries fragrance.

(1R)-(-)-Menthyl acetate Production

By pepper mint oil in the sample derived from a single (l type).
In the presence of anhydrous sodium acetate, acetic anhydride by the menthol and the reaction by washing, distillation derived (dl type).

 

(1R)-(-)-Menthyl acetate Toxicity Data With Reference

Low toxicity by ingestion and skin contact. A skin irritant. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.
