Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by 3-(4-cyanophenoxy)-3-methylbut-1-yne at the temperature of 140 °C. This reaction will need reagent N,N-diethylaniline and solvent dimethylformamide. The yield is about 67%.

Uses of 2H-1-Benzopyran-6-carbonitrile,2,2-dimethyl-: it can be used to produce (3S,4S)-6-cyano-2,2-dimethyl-3,4-epoxychroman at the temperature of 0 °C. It will need reagents NaOCl, pyridine N-oxide and solvent CH2Cl2 with the reaction time of 6 hours. This reaction will also need catalyst (S,S)-Mn(III) complex. The yield is about 99%.
