Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by (2,4-Dinitro-phenyl)-hydrazine. This reaction will need reagent 30 percent H2O2, H2SO4 and solvent ethanol. The yield is about 54%.

Uses of 2-Propanone,2-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)hydrazone: it can be used to produce 5,7-Dinitro-2-methylindole at temperature of 80 °C. It will need reagent HCOOH and solvents ethanol; CCl4 with reaction time of 5 hours. The yield is about 86%.
