Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by iodo-trimethyl-silane and 1,1-dimethoxy-ethene. The yield is about 98%.

Uses of Acetic acid,2-(trimethylsilyl)-, methyl ester: it can be used to produce 3-hydroxy-3-phenyl-2-trimethylsilanyl-propionic acid methyl ester at temperature of -80 °C. This reaction will need reagent LDA, MgBr2 and solvent tetrahydrofuran. The yield is about 78%.
