The IUPAC name of C.I. Acid Red 1, disodium salt is disodium 5-acetamido-4-oxo-3-(phenylhydrazinylidene)naphthalene-2,7-disulfonate. With the CAS registry number 3734-67-6, it is also named as 2,7-Naphthalenedisulfonic acid, 5-(acetylamino)-4-hydroxy-3-(phenylazo)-, disodium salt; Acid red 1; Red 2G. The product's categories are dyes and pigments; organics. It is red powder or granules which is soluble in water and slightly soluble in ethanol. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic vapors of NOx and SOx.
