Ginsenoside Rg1 History

Panax ginseng has been used in Asia for thousands of years. Recently, Panax extracts have become one of the most popular commercial herbal dietary supplements in the West.
About 20 years ago,  Panax extracts occurred with the introduction of a 4% minimum ginsenoside content in a formulation of Panax ginseng C V Meyer under the trademark G115 by Pharmaton in Lugano Switzerland.
Over the past five years, refinements in high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) have allowed greater precision in Panax constituent analysis in order to investigate the safety and efficacy in human populations.
Most notable are the Rg1 and Rb1 ginsenosides. The introduction of a commercial product with a precise standardized composition of Rb1 and Rg1 has created a unique opportunity for investigating the safety and efficacy of Panax extracts.

Ginsenoside Rg1 Uses

Ginsenoside Rg1 appears to be most abundant in Panax ginseng (Chinese/Korean Ginseng). Ginsenoside Rg1 protects neurons from hypoxic-ischemic injury. It improves spatial learning and increase hippocampal synaptophysin level in mice, plus estrogen-like activity (which could account for the boosting of "yin" theory). Because ginsenosides Rg1 appears to affect multiple pathways, its effects are complex and difficult to isolate.

Ginsenoside Rg1 Safety Profile

GINSENOSIDE Rg1 is irritating by inhalation. It is harmful in contact with skin,
and it is harmful if swallowed.
