Preparation: this chemical is prepared by reaction of Chloro-trimethyl-silane with acetaldehyde at ambient temperature. The reaction needs solvents Dimethylformamide and Triethylamine. The reaction time is 28.5 hours. The yield is about 62 %.

Uses: it is used to produce other chemicals. For example, it is used to produce 2-Trimethylsilanyloxy-cyclopropanecarboxylic acid methyl ester. This reaction needs catalyst optically active Cu-catalyst 4a and solvent Benzene. The reaction temperature is 80 °C. The yield is about 53 %.
