TARTARIC ACID DL-TARTARIC ACID L-TARTARIC ACID
Colorless crystals or white power, without odor, with sour taste, stable in air, compound of equal quantity ofdextro-rotatory and levo-rotatory tartaric acid, containing one or two molecule crystalline water and losting water when heated to 100°C, specific gravity 1.697. Its solubility in ether is about 1% and 5.01(25°C) in ethanol, in water is 20.60(20°C).
Widely used in food, medicine, chemistry and light industry, etc., Mainly sed to manufacture tartaric acid salts, such potassium sodium tartrate and used as beer foaming agent. Also applied in tanning, photo, glass, enamel and telecom materials industries. Its acidity is as 1.3 times as citric acid, so specially as acidifying agent for grape juice.
