Poly glutamic acid (poly-γ-glutamic acid, abbreviated as PGA) is a kind of water-soluble poly amino acid through micor-organism fermentation in nature, structure of Glutamic acid unit of the polymer formed through α-amino and γ-carboxyl peptide bonded.

γ-PGA is named as natto gum in the international cosmetic Codex. It is also known as plant collagen, collagen vegetal, and phyto collagen in Europe and Japan. In China, it is called natto gum or multi-poly Glutamic acid, poly-glutamic acid. 

Poly-γ-glutamic acid’s molecular weight is distributed between 50KDa and 2000KDa, having excellent water solubility, super absorbability  and biodegradability. The product of its biodegradability is the non-pollution Glutamic acid, therefore it is an environment friendly polymer material.

Application:

γ-PGA and its derivatives can be widely used in the food industry, cosmetics, health care, water treatment, wastewater treatment, hygienic products, medical and water gel and other fields.

Food industry: as thickener of food and beverage. It can be added to the ice cream as stabilizer, and texture enhancer, binder, animal feed additives, antifreeze agent or protective agent, bitterness-easing agents; it also can be used in starch foodstuff (bread and noddles) as food additive, avoiding aging, improving food character and maintaining the shape of the food.

Water treatment-absorbent of heavy metals or chelating agents

Wastewater treatment: biological polymer flococulant, could be used to substitute poly acrylamide.

Health care: help absorbing calcium for osteoporosis patients.

Hygienic products: work as absorbent for baby diapers, women’s sanitary napkins and etc.

Medicine: the carrier of released drug, hemostatic agents and soft tissue fillers.

Cosmetics: Special molecular structure make Gamma -PGA has strong moisturizing ability, can effectively increase the skin moisturizing ability and promote skin health.  Its super moisturizing ability is better than that of hyaluronic acid and collagen. Compared with hyaluronic acid ,gamma – PGA is a new generation moisturizing ingredient and its moisturizing effect is 2-3 times better.  Used as a whitening agent, it has long-lasting anti wrinkle properties, has more advantage than other polymers,  Gamma -PDA can be used in skin care products, shampoo, hair cream, shaving cream and lipstick.
