3,Application:
a.Food Industry:Purified CMC is being used in ice creams, jams, salad dressings for its property
of preventing crystallization of ice and water-retention characteristics.
b.Drilling Industry:In oil industry, CMC is being used together with barite bentonite, and clay in
order to prepare drilling muds, which helps controlling suspension, and getting out the sand in the drilling process.
c.CMC in Ceramic Industry:
1)CMC for ceramics features uniform distribution of substituents (carboxy methyl group)on the cellulose backbone. It produces fewer gel granules in glaze formulation.
2)It contains no colored impurity and is 100% combustible under firing condition, to ensure clean
ceramic glaze.
3) It can stabilize physical and chemical property of glaze formulation.
4) It can improve glaze adhesion and reduce glaze cracking.
5) It facilitates formation of a smooth dense glaze layer.
6) It can improve the rheological property of glaze formulation.
7) The glaze viscosity is proportional to the concentration of CMC added.
d.Glue and Adhesive Industry:By making use of water solubility and binding properties, CMC is
used as glue for wallpaper applications, and is also used in leather industry too.
e.Paper Industry:CMC is used in paper industry for binding the ingredients, and for increasing
the strenght of paper. Some purified and technical grades are also used for smoothing the
surface of paper, which means better printability and quality.
f.Paint Industry:It is used in paints to control the flow property of paints.
g.Construction Industry:CMC can be used with plaster and cement. The main objective is
to prevent early freezing; that way, it becomes quite easy to work on plaster in a longer period.
h.Detergent Industry:CMC is used in detergent industry widely due to its property of getting the
dirt particules with the rinsing water. In cream detergents, it prevents the drying of surface and
CMC can hold the water (moisture) for a long time.
i.Textile Industry :Due to water-solubility, film making ability and binding characteristic, CMC
is being used in sizing of yarns in warping.
j.CMC for other Industries :Mosquito-repellent incense, Tobacco, Mining, Electric Welding,
Battery, ect.
4,Packaging and Storage:
