Chitooligosaccharide could be considered as water-soluble chitosan oligomer which is made from depolymerizing chitosan by enzyme hydrolysis. And its average molecular weight (≤3kDa) is muc lower than chitosan's (≥100KDa). The low molecular weight benefits prominent water solubility and bioactivities which attracte the interest of many researchers and companies to utilize chitooligosaccharide for agricultural applications.
COS (short for chitooligosaccharide) is a useful tool for the Integrated Pest Management (IPM). COS has shown to be effective elicitor of Induced Systemic Resistance (ISR) in plant which actives plants' natural defenses to boost plant vigor, improve plant health and yield parameters.
