Another name for formestane is hydroxyandrostenedione. For those of you who don't already know, andostenedione is and always was a lousy physique supplement (or drug, whichever you like to call it). As wel all know, the even the prohormones are now illegal in the US (as of Jan 20th, 2005). Tell me how weird chemistry can be...regular androstenedione is highly aromatizable. It converts to estogen very, very readily. When it was legal and everyone was using some form of it, I heard of numerous cases of gyno from it. At the time it was legal and was an over the counter supplement. Imagine getting gyno from something that isn't even helping you build mass That sucks.
Anyway, all formestane is, is androstenedione with one little hydroxyl (OH) group atttached at the fourth carbon. This small alteration turns a lousy physique androgen which aromatizes highly and has no real true use for us...into one of the best anti-estrogens you can obtain (legal or otherwise). Weird chemistry, huh
Formestane has a very long active life on the order of 24-36 hours. You can get any sport supplement version capsules for around $40 US or less. This amount of $ will usually last you about 3-4 weeks at a sufficient dosage of 200-400mg per day. I have found 200mg a day to be perfect for on cycle anti-estrogen usage and for post-cycle recovery of natural testosterone. Formestane has zero negative feedback (even though it is an androgen by definition) and serves to elevate natural testosterone as well as any anti-estrogen/anti-aromatase drug out there, next to clomid.

Applications:
Formestane is a second generation, irreversible, steroidal aromatase inhibitor. It inhibits the aromatase enzyme responsible for converting androgens to estrogens, thereby preventing estrogen production. Breast cancer may be estrogen sensitive or insensitive. A majority of breast cancers are estrogen sensitive. Estrogen sensitive breast cancer cells depend on estrogen for viability. Thus removal of estrogen from the body can be an effective treatment for hormone sensitive breast cancers. Formestane has been targeted specifically for the treatment of postmenopausal women. Unlike premenopausal women who produce most estrogen in the ovaries, postmenopausal women produce most estrogen in peripheral tissues with the help of the aromatase enzyme. Formestane, an aromatase inhibitor, can thus help to decrease the local production of estrogen by blocking the aromatase enzyme in peripheral tissues (ie. Adispose tissue of the breast) to treat hormone sensitive breast cancer.
