An organic amine proton acceptor. It is used in the synthesis of surface-active agents and pharmaceuticals; as an emulsifying agent for cosmetic creams and lotions, mineral oil and paraffin wax emulsions, as a biological buffer, and used as an alkalizer. (From Merck, 11th ed; Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p1424)
TRIS base is a commonly used laboratory reagent. Highly water soluble. Working pH range 7 - 9. Used in buffer solutions such as Tris-buffered saline (TBS), Tris-acetate-EDTA (TAE) in combination with acetic acid and EDTA (Cat. No. 2811) and Tris-borate-EDTA in combination with boric acid and EDTA.
Tris is the most commonly used buffer in biological research. One of the most important applications is the use as an electrophoresis buffer for polyacrylamide and agarose gel electrophoresis, respectively. Tris should not be used at pH values under pH 7.2 or above pH 9.0. The pH value of a Tris buffer strongly depends on the temperature. Therefore, Tris buffers should be prepared at the temperature where it is used.
Tris base has been used in the dissection medium and culture medium of Hippocampal organotypic tissue cultures. It is a component of lysis buffer which is used before immunoprecipitation and immunoblotting, and a component of NuPAGE loading buffer for SDS-PAGE and as a component of transfer buffer for Western blotting. Tris buffer solutions are widely used in cell and molecular biology for processes such as protein and nucleic acid extraction and purification. Trizma based buffers are also in column chromatography and in gel electrophoresis.
In the synthesis of surface-active agents, vulcanization accelerators, pharmaceuticals. As emulsifying agent for cosmetic creams and lotions, mineral oil and paraffin wax emulsions, leather dressings, textile specialties, polishes, cleaning Compounds, so-called soluble oils. Absorbent for acidic gases. Biological buffer.
