EDTA Chinese Name: ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, is an organic compound, odorless and tasteless, melting point 250 ℃ (decomposition), room temperature and pressure for white powder. Because it is the representative material of chelating agent and can form stable water-soluble complexes with alkali metals, rare earth elements and transition metals, it has a wide range of applications.

1. Water treatment applications: EDTA has a wide range of coordination ability, can form stable chelates with almost all metal ions, and its metal chelates have good solubility in slightly acidic conditions, so it has been used as an inhibitor of harmful metal ions and water softener in the textile industry for a long time. Because of its good water solubility, its metal ion chelate has been widely used in the cleaning of water equipment.

2. Application in agriculture: the metal salts of EDTA series chelating agents, such as Cu, CA, Fe, Mg and Zn, have the advantages of good solubility and easy absorption, and become a good source of micro fertilizer, and the mixed metal salts of these chelates do not affect their solubility, which is conducive to use as multi-element compound micro fertilizer. Moreover, EDTA has carboxyl group, which can produce potassium salt, ammonia salt, etc. it can supplement potassium fertilizer and nitrogen fertilizer at the same time of supplementing trace elements.

3. Application in other industries: EDTA series chelating agents are also widely used in photography, textile, printing and dyeing, papermaking, daily chemical, chemical analysis, etc. The ferric ammonium salt of EDTA can be used as bleaching fixer for color sensitive material processing. EDTA can mask metal ions, increase the activity of surfactants and foam stability, and enhance the detergency of detergents. The sodium salt of EDTA can be used as an additive in shampoo, shower gel and cosmetics to prevent the rancidity caused by metal ions.
