Hydroxyethyl piperazine ethanesulfonic acid HEPES is a weak acid. As an zwitterionic buffer in biochemical detection, it has the advantage of no cytotoxicity compared with other buffers. 1. Advantages of HEPES in production:

2. HEPES is used as a buffer of enzyme at low temperature
Generally, the use condition of biological buffer is room temperature of 25 ℃ or higher (according to the optimal pH range of enzyme), but sometimes it needs to be tested at low temperature. Some buffers are obviously affected by low temperature and are not suitable for use. The decomposition ability of HEPES can be enhanced with the increase of temperature and weakened with the decrease of temperature. However, compared with other buffers, its decomposition constant changes little with temperature, which makes HEPES buffer a buffer that can better maintain the structure and function of enzyme at low temperature.
3. HEPES has no toxic and side effects on cells
HEPES buffer can control the constant pH range for a long time. Low concentration HEPES has no toxic effect on cells. It is often used in cell culture. For example, HEPES can be added to the culture solution or virus preservation solution of various bacteria and fungi to maintain the pH environment required by cells, bacteria and viruses.
