Inositol  CAS 87-89-8

Inositol, also known as cyclohexanol, hexahydroxy cyclohexane, cyclohexitol, carnitose, and inositol, belongs to one of the B vitamins. Due to the different orientation of hydroxyl relative to the ring plane, there are 9 isoforms of inositol, of which 7 are non-optically active and 2 are optically active (left-handed and right-handed). In nature, it exists in all biological tissues in the form of free or combined. It is a common component in animal and plant cells, which can be synthesized by microorganisms in the digestive tract and participate in the metabolism of sugars and lipids in the body. In animals, it mainly exists in the form of phosphatidylinositol, and is most abundant in brain, myocardium and skeletal muscle. It mainly exists in the form of phosphoinositol in plants, and can combine with calcium, zinc, iron and other insoluble compounds, which interfere with their digestion and absorption. When the lack of inositol in the diet of animals, hair removal occurs, affecting development. Inositol is related to intracellular calcium metabolism, and its triphosphate derivatives can be released from lipid conjugates after cell stimulation and act as a second messenger, which can mobilize intracellular calcium ions and regulate many cellular activities, such as secretion, metabolism, light conduction and cell division.
