Main purpose

Ethyl decanoate has a coconut aroma and is mainly used to prepare food flavors. Similar aliphatic ethyl carboxylate, such as ethyl octanoic acid, ethyl nonanoate and ethyl laurate, are also used as spices. Sometimes commercial ethyl laurate refers to a mixed ester. Octanoic acid (C8), decanoic acid (C10), lauric acid (C12), myristic acid (C14), palmitic acid (C16) are present in coconut oil in the form of glycerides, of which the content of glyceryl laurate is 45-51%. In the presence of sulfuric acid, ethyl laurate can be obtained by transesterification reaction of ethanol and glyceryl coconut oleate, which is used to prepare perfume essence, soap essence and edible essence.
