Reon? granules work using a crosslinked network of flexible, insoluble polymer chains which, through diffusion and molecular attractions, are able to hold and manage extraordinary moisture levels. And, subject to application, capable of holding and releasing moisture over and over again. Made using ordinary cornstarch, Reon is a sustainable solution that can outperform synthetic polymers for many applications. Each Reon starch granule holds more than 500 times its weight in water, and can be formulated using either dissociated potassium or sodium ionic functional groups. The unique properties of Reon give chemical and product engineers access to a patented technology that can dramatically improve the performance characteristics of existing products and create vast opportunities for innovative new products. As importantly, Reon is made from readily available starch and is biodegradable and non-toxic for an increasingly green-focused world. The core technology of Reon was developed at the United States Department of Agriculture in the early 1970's in an attempt to use corn starch as a paint thickener. This discovery — the world's first superabsorbent polymer — was coined "Super Slurper."
