Isocyanic acid formula

It is an isomer of fulminic (paracyanic) acid (H-C≡N→O).

When an iron nail is added to isocyanic acid, a slow reaction begins with the release of small transparent bubbles.
After 15-30 seconds, a violent reaction begins with the release of a large amount of brown smoke and voluminous bubbling. Peak reaction after 2-3 minutes, depending on the concentration and volume of isocyanic acid.
The nail dissolves completely, and dissolved brown iron crystals remain at the bottom.
