Properties
Physical Properties: Gadolinium nitrate hexahydrate is a colorless or white crystalline powder. It is highly soluble in water, forming a colorless solution, and is also soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol. It is deliquescent.
Chemical Properties: It has the typical properties of nitrates. It decomposes when heated to form gadolinium oxide, nitrogen oxides, and oxygen. It can react with alkalis to form gadolinium hydroxide precipitate and can form complexes with some ligands.

Production Process
Usually, it is prepared by reacting gadolinium oxide with nitric acid. The reaction equation is: 
Gd2O3+6HNO3+3H2O=2Gd(NO3) 3⋅6H2O. 
Specifically, gadolinium oxide is added to an appropriate amount of nitric acid solution, and the reaction is carried out under certain temperature and stirring conditions to fully dissolve gadolinium oxide. After the reaction is completed, the gadolinium nitrate product is obtained through steps such as evaporation and concentration, cooling and crystallization, filtration, and drying.

Application Areas
Medical Field: Gadolinium nitrate is an important raw material for the preparation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents. Gadolinium ions are paramagnetic and can shorten the relaxation time of surrounding water molecules, thereby enhancing the contrast of tissues and helping doctors observe the internal lesions of the human body more clearly.
