Withdrawal symptoms in a neonate whose mother had been a chronic user of PROPOXYPHENE HYDROCHLORIDE (cas 1639-60-7) have not, as far as we are aware, been reported. We observed withdrawal symptoms in a neonate at 20 hours of age; the mother had taken propoxyphene hydrochloride regularly for over 3 years prior to delivery. Since propoxyphene hydrochloride has well-described addicting potential and is closely related in structure to methadone, it is possible that the infant's symptoms were due to withdrawal from propoxyphene hydrochloride.
