The reactivity of a binuclear nickel(II) sulfur bridged complex with benzyl bromide and methyl iodide has been studied. The preparation of a novel binuclear nickel(II) bromine bridged complex of 2,6-bis[(benzyl)mercaptomethyl)]pyridine has been carried out from the reaction involving bis[2,6-bis(mercaptomethyl)pyridino] dinickel(II) and benzyl bromide. The structure of [Ni(L)Br(μ-Br)]2 was determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis. The coordination environment of the nickel atom can be described as a distorted octahedron. The octahedra from the two nickel atoms in the dinuclear complex share one edge. The midpoint is located in a center of symmetry.
