Publisher SummaryThis chapter discusses the analytical profile of thioridazine hydrochloride. Thioridazine is commercially available as the base and as the hydrochloride salt. Thioridazine and its HC1-salt are white to slightly yellow crystalline powder with a faint odor and a very bitter taste. The powder darkens on exposure to light. Each two molecules in the unit cell of the drug have slightly different conformation. The base thioridazine is water insoluble but it is soluble in alcohol, in chloroform, in ether, and freely soluble in dehydrated alcohol. The IR-spectrum of thioridazine hydrochloride as KBr-disc was made on a Perkin Elmer 580B Infrared Spectrometer. Both the proton nuclear magnetic resonanc (H-NMR) and Carbon nuclear magnetic resonance (C-NMR) of thioridazine hydrochloride have been run on the same solution of thioridazine hydrochloride sample dissolved in CDC1.
