The complex-forming properties of methacrylic acid grafted to cellulose in complexing with polyvinylpyridine N-oxide and Cu2+ ions are studied by potentiometric titration for various contents of methacrylic acid in the copolymer, and different Cu+ ion concentrations. The mean values of the Gibbs free energies ΔG for conformational transitions on ionization of macromolecules of grafted polymer are calculated. An increase in acidity of the PMAA carboxyl groups in the grafted copolymers is observed, and it is found that the complex formed between grafted PMAA and Cu2+ ions is extremely stable compared with the complex between homo-PMAA and Cu2+ ions.
