2-Methyl-2-oxazoline (MOX) as a nucleophilic monomer and tetrachlorophthalic anhydride (TCPhA) as an electrophilic monomer were copolymerized in the absence of initiator at various feed ratios. Copolymers were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-i.r. and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Their compositions were determined from chlorine contents; the monomer reactivity ratios determined by the Fineman and Ross method were r1 = 0.10 (MOX) and r2 = 0.05 (TCPhA). The thermal stability of copolymers increased as the content of tetrachlorophthalic anhydride increased. The reaction order for degradation of all copolymers was zero. The kinetic parameters of the decomposition were determined for all copolymers.
