  • Schiff bases of 5'-deoxypyridoxal with n-hexylamine in water-dioxane mixtures: influence of polarity of the medium on the catalysis of formation
  • Add time:07/12/2019         Source:sciencedirect.com

Formation of Schiff bases of n-hexylamine with 5'-deoxypyridoxal in water-dioxan mixtures (0, 50, 70 and 100% dioxane vv) have been studied by kinetic methods. The formation and the hydrolysis rate constants, the equilibrium constants and the pK values have been measured at 25 ° and 0.1 M ionic strength. This study shows that a decrease in the polarity of the medium and the lack of phosphate group do not affect the intramolecular general acid-base catalysis for the formation of the Schiff base. The results also indicate the important role played by the solvent composition in the formation of Schiff bases.
