  • 8.10 Reduction of Carboxylic Acids and their Derivatives to Alcohols, Ethers, and Amines
  • Add time:09/06/2019         Source:sciencedirect.com

The reduction of carboxylic acids and their derivatives represents one of the more fundamental transformations covered in undergraduate chemistry courses. As such the field is dominated by the classical hydride reductants that have been well understood for many decades. This chapter covers not only these classical methods and also those less well known but nevertheless important. The work has been organized by functional group (e.g., ester, amide) with the view to being able to quickly reach the starting material of interest. This work seeks to place the various methods in the context of their popularity and thus applicability to a specific task, while also highlighting the various issues associated with chemoselectivity.
