1. The brief introduction of brinzolamide

Brinzolamide
(trade name Azopt) is a sulfonamide and a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used to lower intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It belongs to Reagents; Intermediates & Fine Chemicals; Pharmaceuticals; Brinzolamide.

2. Mechanism of action/Effect:

Brinzolamide
is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. Carbonic anhydrase is an enzyme found in many tissues of the body. Carbonic anhydrase catalyzes the reversible reaction involving the hydration of carbon dioxide and the dehydration of carbonic acid. In humans, carbonic anhydrase exists as a number of isoenzymes, the most active of which is carbonic anhydrase II. Carbonic anhydrase II is found primarily in red blood cells, but it also appears in other tissues.

Brinzolamide inhibits human carbonic anhydrase II. Inhibition of carbonic anhydrase in the ciliary processes of the eye decreases aqueous humor secretion, presumably by slowing the formation of bicarbonate ions, with subsequent reduction in sodium and fluid transport. The result is a reduction in intraocular pressure, and thereby a reduction in the risk of optic nerve damage and glaucomatous visual field loss.

3. The uses of brinzolamide

Brinzolamide
can be used for the treatment of primary and secondary open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. With brinzolamide, intraocular pressure can also be used in the prevention and treatment after laser surgery. It can act as beta-blockers when β-blockers is invalid. Or it acts as separate drugs together with contraindications or synergistic therapeutic drugs.

4. The side effect of brinzolamide

Common, but mild: Blurred vision; bitter, sour, or unusual taste; itching, pain, watering, or dryness of the eyes; feeling that something is in the eye; headache; runny nose.
Rare, but serious: Fast or irregular heartbeat; fainting; skin rash, hives, or itching; severe eye irritation, redness, or swelling; swelling in the face, lips, or throat; wheezing or trouble breathing.
So when you use it, please be careful.
